It has been a stressful few weeks for those of us in Florida. Two powerful and deadly hurricanes, arriving nearly back-to-back, have left paths of death and destruction. Yet, for all that we are dealing with, it could have been so much worse.
Thank you to the National Hurricane Center, the hurricane hunters, and all of the scientists who study and gather data about these powerful storms.
Thank you to all the meteorologists who were on-air for hours, making sure we were informed and helping us to be vigilant about our preparations.
Thank you to all of the communities who set up shelters for those that had to evacuate, and for those who helped to man those shelters.
Thank you to all the law enforcement and fire fighters who responded when help was needed.
Thank you to neighbors who looked out for each other, helped each other prepare, and assisted with clean up when it was all over.
Thank you to all the lineman and other crews who are working tirelessly to restore power.
Thank you to all the medical personnel who treated the injuries that these storms inflicted.
Thank you to FEMA and other state and federal services that were rolled out and have been helping those who have lost so much.
As Fred Rodgers said of disasters, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
