Some numbers to consider….
40 college students representing 3 Universities, working with 25 teachers at my school, logging over 550 volunteer hours over the course of 10 weeks this fall.
This is what mentoring, hands-on-experience, and paying it forward looks like.
Coordinating the Boots on the Ground Program is one of my most fulfilling “extra-duties”!!!!
During this season of giving thanks, I want to share a few of the things seen in these numbers, for which I am deeply grateful:
- I am thankful that in spite of the fact that so many of those in power are demonizing teachers and trying to dismantle the public educational system, there are still young people who want to become educators.
- I am thankful that even with enrollment numbers dropping and a critical teacher shortage, there are universities that are protecting their colleges of education and committing to the training and preparation of teachers.
- I am grateful that in spite of having more and more tasks dropped onto their plate, teachers are still making time to mentor and nurture the new generation of teachers.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week and take time to think about all the blessings in our lives, please think about the educators who have touched your life and the lives of those you love. For these educators to be there every day, doing what they do so well, is truly a herculean task. Please let them know how much you appreciate them!
